Floor Marking Considerations | Installing Durable Internal Line Marking and Walkways

ASG Services’ most durable line marking solution is the 100mm wide line installed using specialist machinery.

Preparing the floor and using a good quality 2-part epoxy resin offers two major benefits when installing line marking and walkways, which are:
1.  It significantly increases durability.
2.  It offers chemical stability allowing cleaning, using solvents.

There are always difficulties in meeting high standards.  Our 100mm wide line creates a number of issues which end users must be aware of, since they are cosmetic and easily identified.

To prepare the floor properly we need to remove at least 1mm from the surface (referred to as a ‘Power Floated Surface‘), to do this we use shot blasters and our own specifically developed diamond preparation equipment.

Shot blasting creates a suitable finish to apply paint to however, it does not give a definite edge leaving an untidy appearance to the finished line.  Shot blasting is ideal for the installation of bulk areas and the untidy appearance in not as noticeable and the cost difference is great.

Once the floor is prepared, masking tape is used to define the line.  This consistently works well however due to some conditions the tape may not adhere correctly resulting in bleed and can look untidy.  This is significantly reduced by using our preparation machinery but can still happen on old floors.

Paint bleed may be extensive on poor quality surfaces, in this case we advise the use of sprayed one-part paint or advise the customer to repair their floor first.

Contamination of a concrete floor is usually deeper than can be seen, and often deeper than can be removed which prevents some paint systems from keying with the concrete, resulting in a failed installation.  Areas suspected of contamination should be highlighted prior to placing an
order as costs may also be incurred later.

Epoxy materials wear over time depending on the amount and weight of traffic they are subjected to.  This means we are unable to offer a strict and accurate guarantee of the lines wearing out, but assure our customer that we are not aware of a competitor who can.

Preparation, floor cleanliness, and positioning lines away from heavy traffic and FLT turning points all help to increase the lines lifespan.  Dirt acts as an abrasive material which wears the paint over time.

If you report to Senior Management or Directors, you should always ensure that issues raised on this subject are discussed with them prior to the commencement date.  A difficult and frustrating situation will arise, if they are unaware of, or do not appreciate the end result.

As a company ASG Services do not carryout work in warehouses which are considered inappropriate or unsuitable for our methods of floor marking systems.  We prefer to decline the offer of a contract on the basis that the end result would not be as required.  We will always try to point you in the right direction if this ever occurs.

Our aim is to provide durable floor and line marking which meets the expectations and requirements of our customer and to provide it as neatly as possible.
