Floor marking, rack labelling and signage from a single supplier – Henkel turns to ASG Services
A comprehensive floor marking and rack labelling installation has now been completed by ASG Services Ltd. at new premises brought on-line by the manufacturer and distributor of some of the most famous adhesive brands in the country.
Completed towards the end of 2004, the new Cheshire-based facility for Henkel Loctite Adhesives reflects the organisation’s growth and is now the centre for shipping some 10.5 million cases of products that include the famous Loctite, Unibond and Solvite names. By using the extensive capability of ASG Services, Henkel has been able to turn to just one supplier for the labelling and floor marking to achieve high quality results for key installations that help meet both efficiency and safety objectives.
Using a two-part epoxy coating applied after shot blast preparation of the floor, the ASG Services lane marking installations fulfil a number of specific requirements. Running across the building is a clearly marked green pedestrian walkway that is designed not only to define the optimum route from one side of the warehouse to the other, but also to provide segregation between materials handling equipment and personnel.
This also runs adjacent to an area marked with a red finish designated for daily training purposes as well as two demarcation zones for forklift truck recharging. These have been treated with a high visibility yellow finish to which black chevrons have been roller applied allowing a series of trucks to be safely parked adjacent to the charging stations.
The full complement of 20 electrically-powered Jungheinrich trucks used at the site – including order pickers, box loaders and pedestrian ride-on vehicles – can thus be assigned specific charging bays safely, separate from the pedestrian and handling areas of the warehouse. The ASG Services floor marking project has been completed by further use of high visibility yellow markings around six dock levellers which add an important degree of safety to this highly active area of the premises.
The site is centred on a total of 18 back-to-back racking aisles, with sufficient space to incorporate a number of additional very narrow aisle runs. These also benefit from ASG Services' supply capability with individual labels assigned to the eight beam levels for the 13,000 pallet positions at the site – which has future growth capacity if required. Featuring both alpha-numeric and bar-code identification, the durability and quality of the thermal transfer labels provide a long lasting interface with the planned computerised stock management system which facilitates the use of hand-held scanners if required.
