A growing business with over 3000 packaging product lines
A growing business with over 3000 packaging product lines, from cartons and boxes to protection and void-fill, operating a next day delivery service to some 60,000 customers, makes for a very busy environment, one that needs a very defined, safe and organised structurally.
As suppliers of packaging materials throughout the UK, Rajapack have the widest choice of their kind, with customers predominantly ordering online or by catalogue and with purchasing power to provide truly low prices.
Paul Brotherwood, the Warehouse Manager and Health & Safety Officer, at Rajapack took on the task of developing the company health and safety policy and practices to provide a format which everyone in the company would recognises and engage with. Significant focus was placed on the floor plan and operational function of the warehouse, to ensure health and safety was addressed while helping improve productivity and gaining full advantage of the building’s capability.
Following considerable planning Paul Brotherwood approached ASG Services, the UK’s leading supplier of internal floor marking and warehouse safety products, with a view to supply the best floor marking system available and to meet strict budgetary constraints.
Tony Gresty, Managing Director of ASG Services commented on Paul’s approach by saying, “Paul was very clear on the layout and design required which meant, working together became very easy.” Tony went on to say, “Any successful installation begins with accuracy and attention to detail, in specification design and installation, something ASG usually provide, in Rajapack’s case it was uncompromised with their initial approach.”
Understanding the pitfalls of floor marking, helps a customer recognise and appreciate the end result, which ASG Services are always keen to express. Their customers very rarely question a finished article and even re-specify their requirements once they appreciate the potential consequences. Paul said “We were extremely well informed by the sales team.”
The installation is unique, the largest of its type installed by ASG Services with no preparation of the concrete. Preparation is normally a pre-requisite from ASG, however they sourced the very best products and after cleaning, the paint was applied directly to the warehouse floor, and its performance is eye-opening.
The project consisted of 1200mm wide solid walkway covering over 100sq metres in green, and a total of 1300m of line marking, made up of pedestrian routes in green, marshalling bays, where trucks and people work, in yellow, traffic routes in red and areas prohibited by traffic are marked in blue.
The project was managed by ASG’s management team inline with Rajapack’s requirements and installed by ASG’s own specialist team. Paul commented on the installation by saying “The installers were excellent and performed their requirements with professionalism.”
Other details such as zebra crossings and hatched zones highlight areas to beware for all personnel who maybe working there, as well as preventing stock being stored inappropriately. Rajapack are the first company use ASG Services’ Fire Exit Panels at all fire exit doorways leading from the warehouse, a total of 8, 1m x 1m panels were positioned and fitted within a fraction of the time, usually required for marking fire exits.
Speaking about the panels Tony said, “I really believe it is a great product, our customers like it, they can install it themselves and in comparison it’s cheap.” Yellow & black in colour, the panels are highly visible, offering a means of helping prevent storage in the wrong areas and perform well as an alternative solution for those areas.
